NAMI hiring Program Coordinator

NAMI Sarasota County, serving Sarasota and Manatee Counties, is seeking a skilled Program Coordinator (30 hours/week) in a non-clinical mental health setting. This new position will oversee the recruitment and training of volunteer facilitators and teachers of NAMI programs and is responsible for the day to day operation of NAMI program management, support groups, program leaders, education classes, and facilitators. The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with culturally diverse volunteers and members, their families and caregivers as well as a wide range of community agencies and organizations.

 

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience; experience in adult learning, curriculum implementation and/or education is preferred, along with experience and knowledge, personal or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental illness. Position Description 

Program Coordinator

Hours: 30 hours per week 

A dynamic and growing mental health support organization, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), serving Sarasota and Manatee Counties, is seeking a skilled Program Coordinator (30 hours/week) in a non-clinical mental health setting. The Program Coordinator will oversee the recruitment and training of volunteer facilitators and teachers of NAMI programs and is responsible for the day to day operation of NAMI program management, support groups, program leaders, education classes, and facilitators. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, coordinate, promote and enhance the quality of existing NAMI programs, including Family to Family, Peer to Peer, Basics, Connections, Family Support Group, Ending the Silence, In Our Own Voice, and Family and Friends; 
  • Assist in creating a 3-5year plan for NAMI program implementation in Sarasota and Manatee counties; 
  • Ensure NAMI standards and program requirements are met; 
  • Work with Executive Director on program volunteer development including recruitment, interviewing, and training program volunteers for program and support group leaders and facilitators; 
  • Coordinate instructor trainings and provide technical assistance; 
  • Provide support and technical assistance to those implementing the education programs and support services; 
  • Track and record outcomes data through pre-tests, post-tests and detailed evaluations as required; 
  • Maintain current teacher and support group facilitator databases; 
  • Assist with grant proposals for educational programs and support services as requested by Executive Director; 
  • Assist with communications to ensure program-related materials and other communications are prepared and distributed; 
  • Serve as a community liaison for NAMI for outreach opportunities, program development and implementation; 
  • Adhere to privacy policies and demonstrate strict confidentiality regarding member or staff information; 
  • Other tasks as required. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Time management skills and ability to maintain professionalism under pressure; 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with culturally diverse volunteers and members, their families and caregivers as well as a wide range of community agencies and organizations; 
  • Ability to represent NAMI well at provider and community venues; 
  • Computer literacy: ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and maintain Databases, and to organize shared files with Dropbox. Proficiency in Office 365 preferred. 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience; 
  • Experience and knowledge, personal or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental illness; 
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, on occasion.
